DJ Property has been investing heavily both financially and emotionally in the Weymouth area for over 50 years, establishing itself as one of the leading property businesses in South Dorset.
Chief Executive Mickey Jones said:
“It pains me to see that Weymouth has lost touch with many leading resorts. Waterfront development in Weymouth is just not happening. North Quay; the Pavilion Peninsula; the Gasometer site; the list goes on. No one, in recent years, has been prepared to commit to delivering high quality waterfront living space.”
Mr Jones believes future sustainability and prosperity of the harbourside and waterfront areas of the town centre depend on regeneration projects, and larger leisure activity uses need to be located in more accessible parts on sites where the development and maintenance costs can ensure they remain financially viable.
Whilst only a development of modest size, Deheers could be the regeneration catalyst Weymouth sorely needs and prove there is a demand for quality waterfront residences in Weymouth.
Mr Jones added:
“Once the market sees this example, other sites will come forward and development will snowball around the Old Harbour and beyond.
Deheers Warehouse is one of Weymouth's iconic harbour side properties. Acquired by my late father, David Jones, restoring this building to its former glory will give my family a great feeling and pride in our home town.
There is also a great sense of shared responsibility felt by everyone involved with this project. It is vitally important that Deheers serves to lead by example, not just setting a benchmark for quality but also demonstrating the high level of sensitivity required to ensure that the distinctive character of Weymouth’s Old Harbour and its heritage can be celebrated for generations to come.”
